Interview with Jane: The Artisan of Relaxation at Asiatic London

Today, we’re happy to introduce you to Jane, one of our most loved massage therapists here at Asiatic London. With over ten years of experience, Jane began her journey on the sunny beaches of southern Thailand. She later trained in Bangkok, where she refined her skills before bringing them to London.

For the past seven years, Jane has been utilising her skills and passion to provide our clients with the best experience they can imagine. What makes her special is her ability to combine deep, steady pressure with stretching techniques that leave the body feeling both relaxed and re-energised.

Every movement she makes has a purpose. Her massages don’t just ease tension; they align and balance the whole body, leaving you refreshed. Jane doesn’t talk much during her sessions, but her hands speak louder than words, which in turn creates a calm, healing space for anyone who visits her.

Now, let’s take a closer look at Jane’s story and what inspires her work.

Jane, what inspired you to become a massage therapist, and how did your early experiences shape your approach to Thai massage?

My career as a massage therapist started when I travelled to Thailand as a young adult. That trip changed everything for me. I was amazed by the way Thai massage worked, not just on the body but also on the mind and spirit. Seeing all this made me realise that Thai massage is a calling rather than a skill I need to learn. I later trained in Bangkok, where I saw the culture and traditions that make this practice so special. Those early experiences shaped who I am and helped refine my skills and approach to work today. They taught me that authentic massage is not only about technique but also about building a genuine connection and caring for the whole person.

Can you share a touching transformation story from your massage sessions?

One story I will never forget is the tale of a client who came to me stressed, both physically and emotionally. This client has gone through a challenging time in her life. Over several sessions, we focused on easing her tight muscles and also gave her a space where she could let go of every pain in her heart and feel safe again. Little by little, I saw her relax her shoulders and start breathing normally, and just like that, she became re-energised. She later told me she felt like she had found peace again. Hearing her say those words reminded me exactly why I chose this path and why I love helping people through massage..

How do you tailor each session to maximise the optimal benefits of Thai massage for each client?

For me, every session starts with getting to know the person in front of me. I take the time to talk with each client, allowing me to understand their needs, preferences, and any specific issues they would like addressed. This helps me design the massage to fit them, rather than just following a routine.

Once I know what their body needs, I focus on the areas where they have the most tension. I incorporate stretching with acupressure, adjusting the pressure and movements to make it both practical and comfortable. The goal is to create a personalised session, one designed just for them, so they leave feeling light, balanced, and renewed.

Can you share a touching story of a client’s transformation through massage?

What many people don’t expect is how much a massage can clear the mind and relax the body. I’ve had clients who came in for their session feeling heavy and anxious, and by the end of the session, they would say they felt better than when they arrived. Thai massage has a way of connecting the body with the mind. It can even help you release emotions and have a new perspective on life.

In your opinion, what makes Thai massage a uniquely powerful form of holistic therapy?

What makes Thai massage so special is the way it combines both movement and pressure to achieve its effects. It utilises stretching and targeted pressure to help the entire body relax, improve circulation, and enhance flexibility.

Because it also aligns with the body’s natural energy lines, the benefits extend beyond the physical. Many people find it brings them a sense of balance, calm, and emotional release. To me, Thai massage is a way to support people’s overall wellness and help them feel more connected to their body and mind.

Can you share a touching transformation story from your massage sessions with a client?

For me, mindfulness is a big part of every one of my sessions. I always encourage my clients to relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy their session. When they do this, the massage works much better on them. This is because the mind can only relax when the body is fully relaxed. A relaxed body and mind enable the client to let go entirely, making the entire experience more effective.

How does client feedback shape your therapy and professional development?

Feedback is one of the most crucial aspects of professional growth for therapists. I always encourage my client to share their honest thoughts after a session. It helps me understand what works best for them and where I can adjust my approach. Every time I receive feedback, it’s an opportunity to improve the experience, not just for the client, but for myself as well.

What tips do you have for a first-time Thai massage?

If you’re new to Thai massage, the best advice I can give is to come in with an open mind. Trust the process and don’t be afraid to share your needs or preferences with me. This time is all about you. It is your chance to relax, let go of stress, and allow your body to heal.

What’s your favourite Thai massage technique, and why?

Asiatic is designed to be a calming retreat from the outside world. From the soothing music and gentle lighting to the calming scents in the air, everything is set up to help clients fully relax. It’s a warm, welcoming space where people can leave stress behind and fully enjoy the healing benefits of Thai massage.

What makes Asiatic the ideal atmosphere for Thai massage?

What one word best describes your technique and why?

The word I would choose is “flow.” My approach is all about moving smoothly from one technique to another. Even if I’m stretching or applying acupressure, I aim for everything to blend in a natural rhythm. This flow helps clients ease into a deep state of relaxation and balance.

How do you nurture your well-being to improve your healing practice?

Taking care of myself is just as important as taking care of my clients. I practice mindfulness every day through meditation and yoga, which keeps me focused and connected to the healing energy I bring to my sessions. I also spend time in nature, where the quiet and beauty help recharge my mind and spirit. This way, I can give my best to everyone who comes to see me.

What misconceptions about Thai massage would you like to clarify for potential clients?

A lot of people think Thai massage is only about applying strong pressure or doing stretches to make the body more flexible. While those are important parts of it, that’s not the only thing. Thai massage is meant to nurture your whole being and not just your muscles.

It’s really about calming the mind, releasing built-up emotions, and creating a balance. The physical techniques are there to support that, but the real transformation comes when body and mind work together. I always encourage new clients to come in with an open heart and mind, so they can experience the full range of benefits this practice has to offer.
