Interview with Jane: The Artisan of Relaxation at Asiatic London

Today, we’re happy to introduce you to Jane, one of our most loved massage therapists here at Asiatic London. With over ten years of experience, Jane began her journey on the sunny beaches of southern Thailand. She later trained in Bangkok, honing her skills before bringing them to London.

For the past seven years, Jane has used her skills and passion to deliver the best experience our clients can dream of. What makes her special is her ability to combine deep, steady pressure with stretching techniques that leave the body feeling both relaxed and re-energised.

Every movement she makes has a purpose. Her massages help you release tension, align and balance your whole body and leave you refreshed. Jane doesn’t talk much during her sessions, but her hands speak louder than words, which in turn creates a healing space for anyone who visits her.

Now, let’s take a look at Jane’s story and what inspires her.

What motivated you to become a massage therapist, and how did your early experiences influence your Thai massage style?

My career as a massage therapist started when I travelled to Thailand as a much younger person. That trip completely changed my life. I was amazed by how Thai massage worked on the body, mind, and spirit. Seeing all this made me see Thai massage as a calling instead of a skill. I later trained in Bangkok, where I saw the culture and traditions that make this practice so special. The lessons I learned during those first years have shaped who I am today and how I approach my work. Those lessons have also educated me that authentic massage is about connecting with others and caring for all aspects of a client’s life – not just physical, but emotional, mental and spiritual.

Can you share a touching transformation story from your massage sessions?

One story I will never forget is the story of a client who came to me stressed. This client has gone through a challenging time in her life. Over several sessions, we focused on easing her tight muscles and also gave her a space where she could let go of every pain in her heart and feel safe again. Little by little, I saw her shoulders relax and her breathing return to normal, and just like that, she became re-energised. She later told me that the massage gave her a sense of peace. Hearing her say those words reminded me exactly why I chose this path.

How do you tailor each session to maximise the optimal benefits of Thai massage for each client?

Every session starts with knowing my client, their needs, preferences and any specific areas they want me to touch. This allows me to design the massage to fit their needs instead of just following a routine.

Once I know what they want, I will focus on those areas where they need it most. I use stretching and acupressure for them, so it is practical and comfortable. The goal is to create a personal session, something designed just for them, so they leave feeling light, balanced, and renewed.

Can you share a touching story of a client’s transformation through massage?

What many people don’t expect is how much a massage can clear the mind and relax the body. I’ve had some clients who came in feeling heavy and anxious, and by the end of the session, they said they felt better than when they came in. Thai massage connects the body and mind. It can even help you release emotions and have a new perspective on life.

In your opinion, what makes Thai massage a powerful form of holistic therapy?

Thai Massage has several qualities that distinguish it from other forms of massage and can provide holistic healing. One significant difference is that Thai Massage combines movement and pressure to create therapeutic effects. Another unique element of Thai Massage is its use of stretches and targeted pressure applied along the entire length of the client’s body to promote relaxation, improve blood flow, and increase flexibility.

Additionally, Thai Massage can interact with the body’s energy pathways, providing clients with physical, mental, and emotional benefits. Many of my clients report feeling balanced, relaxed and emotionally released after receiving a Thai Massage. In my experience, Thai Massage allows me to enhance my clients’ overall well-being by helping them reconnect with their bodies and minds.

Can you share a touching transformation story from your massage sessions with a client?

For me, mindfulness is a big part of every session. I always encourage my clients to relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy their session. When they do this, the massage works much better on them. This is because the mind can only relax when the body is fully relaxed. A relaxed body and mind allow the client to let go, making the experience more effective.

How does client feedback shape your therapy and professional development?

Feedback is one of the most essential parts of my growth as a therapist. I encourage my client to share their review after each session. It helps me to know what they like and don’t like about my service and how I can adjust. Every time I receive feedback, it’s a chance to improve myself.

What tips do you have for a first-time Thai massage?

If you’re new to Thai massage, my advice is to come in with an open mind, because the session is all about you. It is your chance to relax, let go of stress, and allow your body to heal.

What’s your favourite Thai massage technique, and why?

One of my favourite techniques is the “Sen” lines, which are the body’s energy pathways. This method releases blockages and improves my client’s health. I love it because my clients are always relieved after the session, as if a weight has been lifted off them.

What makes the atmosphere in Asiatic ideal for Thai massage?

Asiatic provides an environment that calms you from the distractions of the world outside. The ambience created by the lighting, music and scents is designed to help my clients relax. It is a warm, inviting place for people to come and leave their stress behind so they may immerse themselves in the massage.

What one word best describes your technique and why?

I would use the word “flow” to describe it. My approach is centred on transitioning from one technique to another. Even if I’m stretching or applying acupressure, I ensure everything works together naturally. This flow helps my clients relax and find the balance they paid for.

How do you nurture your well-being to improve your healing practice?

I am a client-centred person, so I take care of myself in the same way that I take care of my clients. Every day, I practice mindfulness to help me stay present and connect with the healing energy I utilise during each session. Nature is an integral part of my life as well, as it provides my mental and spiritual replenishment, allowing me to be at my best while working with each of my clients.

What misconceptions about Thai massage would you like to clarify for potential clients?

Most people think Thai massage is only about applying pressure or stretching. While those are essential parts of it, they are not the only thing. Thai massage is meant to nurture your whole being and not just your muscles.

It is all about calming the mind, releasing built-up emotions, and creating a balance. The physical techniques are there to support that, but the real change comes when body and mind work together. I always encourage new clients to come in with an open mind so they can experience the full benefits this practice offers.
