More info on Thai Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy massage is a treatment that blends essential oils to rebalance the physical and emotional body. At a London spa, massage therapists employ the integrating technique from Swedish massage, combined with soothing aromas, to melt away stress and promote wellness.
Yes, during an aromatherapy session, the massage therapist uses a blend of essential oils, such as uplifting citrus oils for invigoration and grounding cedarwood for relaxation. In London, aromatherapists tailor each massage to each client’s needs, aiming for deep relaxation and rejuvenation.
Aromatherapy massage spas in London typically last 60 to 90 minutes, allowing ample time for a deeply personalised and restorative experience. This flexible duration ensures we can tailor our services to your individual needs, from the initial consultation to the final moments of serene unwinding.
Most clients experience an instant feeling of deep relaxation that positively affects their daily life, such as a decrease in stress and improved mood; this may last for 24-48 hours, but some people report benefits from having a massage every week. Oils like TranquilGlow® Blend have a long-lasting calming effect and promote improved sleep quality and reduced anxiety, further increasing the benefits of Essential Oil Massage in the area.
Although Aromatherapy massage is generally a safe and healthy method for relaxation and revitalisation, there are certainly times when it is wise to take caution or abstain from its use to minimise possible risks:
Pregnancy: Due to the risk of uterine contractions caused by certain essential oils, such as rosemary and clary sage, during the first trimester, Aromatherapy massage is not recommended for pregnant women. However, after the first trimester, and up until delivery, only a specifically formulated pregnancy-safe essential oil blend should be utilised. Please inform us of your doctor’s recommendations regarding your pregnancy; we also provide special prenatal massages for expectant mothers.
Epilepsy or Seizure Disorders: Certain essential oils, specifically rosemary, eucalyptus, fennel and camphor-based, may cause seizures in individuals who are prone to them. Please inform us before scheduling your appointment if you have epilepsy or any form of seizure disorder; we will then utilise alternative oils that are less likely to trigger an episode.
Skin Sensitivities or Allergies: We recommend testing your reaction with a small area on your body (patch test) to ensure you don’t have an allergic reaction to any of the essential oils we will be using before receiving an aromatherapy massage. We use essential oils in a diluted form and select them very carefully for your skin to minimise the risk of irritation.
Other Precautions: Asthmatics and those sensitive to odors (some oils may exacerbate asthma or other respiratory conditions); Active wounds or infected areas on the skin (we will not apply the oil directly to these areas); Post-surgical patients; Hypertensive patients (certain oils may increase circulation, thereby increasing blood pressure; however, the vast majority of oils are calming and help to reduce stress and anxiety.)
We want to ensure that your safety is always our top priority; therefore, please notify us at the time of consultation regarding any medical issues or medications that you are currently taking so that we may modify the treatment according to your individual needs.
An aroma oil blend enhances your massage experience by:
- This product offers a scent that calms the mind, uplifts the spirit, and helps dissolve stress, allowing you to escape the daily demands.
- Deepening relaxation with each breath, while balancing emotions and boosting overall well-being.
- Amplifying the massage’s techniques to deliver physical relief, emotional release, and a sense of peace, leading to a holistic understanding of being revitalised, balanced, and rejuvenated.
Aromatherapy massage offers a range of benefits that address both physical (body) and mental/emotional (mind/spirit) aspects. Here’s a breakdown:
For the Body:
- Improved circulation: Enhanced by the synergistic effects of essential oils and massage techniques.
- Soothing pain relief: Provides relief from physical discomfort via expert touch and therapeutic oils.
- Nurturing and revitalisation: The treatment nourishes the body, promoting rejuvenation and overall physical harmony.
For the Mind/Spirit:
- Profound sense of relaxation: It induces deep relaxation, helping you drift into a sense of peace away from your daily burdens.
- Awakened senses and serenity: This experience stimulates your senses in a calming way, creating a symphony of serenity just for you.
- Refreshed and rejuvenated state: Leaves you enveloped in holistic harmony, celebrating well-being and spiritual nurturing.
These benefits are achieved through the blend of essential oils, and a skilled aromatherapist creates an experience for both body and spirit.
We invite you to share any allergies, sensitivities, or health conditions with your dedicated therapist. Open communication ensures your safety and well-being, allowing the therapist to customise the experience.
A step-by-step guide to how we treat your body during an Essential Oil Massage:
Pre-Massage Preparation
Arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your massage so you have plenty of time to relax in our quiet waiting area. You will fill out a short consultation form before your massage, or your therapist will briefly speak with you about any specific health concerns or preferences you may have. This is to help us create a bespoke massage for you to get the most benefit from your massage therapy, such as using aromatherapy to relieve stress in London, or just needing some relaxation for those tight muscles.
Consultation & Selecting Oils
Your therapist will be in a professional therapy room with soft lighting and soothing music playing. They will chat with you about what you hope to achieve from your massage (e.g., relaxation, energy, etc.). Then they will mix a custom blend of essential oils using their TranquilGlow® AromaBlend or other essential oils (such as calming lavender for stress relief or uplifting citrus for a mood booster). You can choose which scent(s) you prefer – yes, you can customise your oils to fit your needs and preferences!
Massage Application & Technique
You will lie down, and your therapist will apply the warmed, diluted essential oil blend to your body. The technique used will be gentle, long, sweeping motions, similar to Swedish-style effleurage, to distribute the oils throughout your body. The therapist will also use kneading techniques called petrissage to loosen any tense muscles and rhythmic pressure to improve circulation. Techniques used may include light stretches or targeted work on specific areas of the body, such as the lower back, shoulders, or legs. At the same time, the aromatic molecules are absorbed into your skin and inhaled to calm your limbic system.
The Massage Session
As you relax in our calm atmosphere for 60-90 minutes, the beneficial aspects of essential oil massage will become apparent – stress melting away, tired muscles being soothed, and your body regaining its natural balance.
After Your Massage Therapy Session
Once your massage therapy is completed, take some time to relax and rehydrate by drinking water (we offer complimentary herbal tea). For a couple of hours, avoid large meals, excessive drinking or extreme physical activities. Many people find themselves feeling more relaxed and renewed for the rest of the day after an essential oil massage.
